Stifling temperatures, empty metro trains, kids running around until midnight….this can only mean one thing – it’s August in Madrid! And this means that it’s time once again to hit the road for summer vacation!
This summer we opted for an 11-night Mediterranean cruise starting from Athens and finishing in Istanbul. And as usual, we are traveling with our great friends, Javi and Virginia. We have a few nights in Athens before embarking so we plan to load up on our favourite Greek foods and start unraveling the Ancient Mysteries that await!
The ports of call on the cruise are: Crete, Israel (Ashdod & Haifa), Rhodes, Kusadasi (for Ephesus), Mykonos, and finally some scenic cruising through the Dardanelles before arriving in Istanbul. I am most excited for Jerusalem (which we’ll visit from Ashdod) and Istanbul since they are new places for me. But that being said, I’m also very excited for some bougatsa in Iraklion, wandering around Mykonos, and finally seeing Delos! And if I’m really honest, I’m excited for everything!
After we disembark in Istanbul, we are hopping a plane to Kayseri in the centre of Turkey and then making our way to the magical land of Cappadocia. Our base will be in Göreme and we are looking forward to an amazing 3 days of hiking, exploring, and photography (of course!) We have even reserved a balloon flight, which will be the “high”-light of the visit (sorry – couldn’t resist!)
Then it will be back to Istanbul for a few days to finish off summer vacation for another year.
We have high hopes for this trip and hopefully we’ll be able to share it with you daily (depending on if we have time to find some WIFI hotspots on shore).
See you in Greece!!!
