Even seemingly in the middle of nowhere, the Naxi people go about their daily business in Tiger Leaping Gorge. Small hamlets dot the hiking trail offering hikers a meal on their journey or a pillow to lay their heads when the sun sets. While the legend of Tiger Leaping Gorge speaks of a tiger who leapt over the gorge, these days you are more likely to run into goats than tigers. Walking along the trail, evidence of them is everywhere – sounds floating down a slope, a cute face peering through the bushes, and a hyper-awareness of where you are stepping!
