Just to the west of Tiananmen Square lies this architectural wonder. The National Centre for the Performing Arts opened in 2007 and continues Beijing’s journey of modernisation. Affectionately called “The Egg”, it is the perfect marriage between titanium and glass. The centre sits on a lake which in turn is surrounded by park land and a broad walkway which circles the lake. You can find hundreds of people having their evening constitutional there – the circuit is deceptively long so it is good exercise!
